Avis Smith, a survivor of sexual abuse suppression, sits down with StacyK to share her story after sixty-two years of silence. Once abused by her stepfather at around age four, the molestation began-in his darkroom, where he closed off part of the garage to develop film as a photographer.

Watch as Avis takes us back to 1965 and talks about what was “hidden under the rug”and how growing up in a physically violent home, she and her mother discovered the courage to escape with no more than a bag of clothes, leaving behind a monster. After keeping this secret for all those years for fear of people thinking she was damaged or dirty, now Avis speaks out about the truth to help other people.
